ADHD is not a part of the Autistic "spectrum". Allistic ADHD exists. Allistic is not Autistic. Some problematic points.
As an Autistic who is not ADHD, the distinction is very clear to me. Putting them together with some people implying that it is even "on the spectrum" is problematic. Since there is allistic ADHD it can't be put together with Autistic. Allistic is not Autistic.
Problematic points of putting them together in the same category:
• Unless this category is "neurodivergence", which already exists, it is erasing Autistic communication differences, identity, and accommodations needed because of the communication differences. Allistic ADHD exists. If the "spectrum" is so broad then let's have neurotypical also on the spectrum, we are all human, part of the humam diversity and all unique. The idea of "the spectrum" is in itself problematic implying a linear spectrum, "functionality" and ableism, which leads to the second point.
• It feeds the belief that ADHD is "mild Autism". Some Autistic or Audhd people get diagnosed as ADHD, the diagnosis of Autism is avoided because of the pathologisation and discrimination, and ADHD is diagnosed to imply "high functionality" in some people. This also further complicates the distinction, because Autistic people are diagnosed as ADHD.
• Speaking of an "Autistic spectrum", with ADHD being a part of it, has a medical model reference or context, which is not within the neurodiversity paradigm.
